Director of Environmental, Health, & Safety

The Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Director provides compliance, safety and health leadership to Brainerd, including developing comprehensive compliance, safety and health policies and programs and executing a safety and process management system while developing and implementing solutions that will keep our employees safe, prevent interruption of business operations, ensures regulatory compliance and drives a sustainable safety culture across the organization.
The Corporate EHS Director will address compliance, safety and health related issues, proactively and preventively, working closely with the Executive Team, site leaders and department leaders, providing direction, developing strategies to close identified gaps, and driving continuous EHS improvement.
Will also will be responsible for achieving excellence in safety and health performance while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
This position has a direct impact on the well-being of our employees, the perception of our customers, and the financial performance of our company; as such, the individual must possess an in-depth knowledge of safety and health regulations and management methods, along with an ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and influence actions.
In addition to the above-mentioned areas of responsibility, this position will also manage and oversee the quality components of our business, including but not limited to managing our Corporate Lab Coordinator.
This role will work independently and have a high level of interpersonal skills to work across all levels of the organization.
Key Function Areas of Responsibility:
Organization-wide safety and environmental compliance in connection with regulatory standards and industry standards.
Direct all EHS related programs.
Builds, maintains and enforces a company culture of safety and environmental awareness and stewardship.
Develops and maintains collaborative and positive relationships with regulatory entities.
Drive a continuous improvement program throughout company operations from an EHS perspective.
Responsibilities:
Oversees development of policies and programs meant to mitigate organizational impact on the environment or protect employees and the community from health and safety risks found in the organization.
Establishes guidelines governing the collection and maintenance of employee training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation.
Audits facilities and processes to identify weaknesses or risks and proactively develops and implements corrective actions; ensures appropriate investigation of and response to incidents, accidents or injuries.
Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, or local statues or regulations including the EPA, DEQ, and OSHA.
Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
Manages the process of maintaining records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
Act as advocate and primary owner of company s safety program via regular written and in-person communications with the company's executives, site leaders, department heads, and employees.
Lead the safety committee in meetings and projects Provide written reports, as well as other EHS related results and updates, to senior management periodically to appraise leaders of critical issues or as requested.
Develop and monitor meaningful leading indicators of safety and health risk/performance evaluate data trending, and provide data input to management reviews, with a view to continuous improvement and enhancement of safety performance.
Oversee the delivery of EHS training for employees identifying appropriate and relevant content providers and recommending required courses to Work collaboratively with business operations to implement safety and health initiatives including Safe Job Procedures, Standard Practices, PPE requirements, etc.
in according with company policies and regulations Manage and advise on the budget related to EHS spending and coordinate with department and other business units as appropriate.
Identify and implement appropriate environmental/sustainability programs Conduct hazard and risk assessments and audits; develop new or, where necessary, make recommendations to amend, safety policies and procedures or ensure timeline completion of corrective actions that drive continuous improvement Manage OSHA 300 log, files OSHA log annually.
Manage all environmental reporting activities Facilitate incident investigations, root cause analysis, site remediation, and closure of corrective actions as needed.
Act as a Subject Matter Expert advisor regarding EHS related terms in contracts with vendors, partners and customers.
Monitor and assist operations in the enforcement of health and safety regulations internally and associated with vendor, partner and / or customer contracts.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Science degree in environmental safety, occupational safety, industrial hygiene or similar degree program (engineering or sciences) required.
Master's degree preferred.
10 years of experience in any combination of the following areas:
Safety Management, Environmental Management, and Industrial Hygiene.
Chemical industry experience preferred.
State, Federal, or Local Regulatory Agency experience highly preferred.
Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CIH preferred.
Must have extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
Must possess meticulous organization skills and attention to detail.
Must possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must possess the ability to work under pressure, continuously meet deadlines, and manage multiple high-level projects simultaneously.
Must work collaboratively with all levels and departments regarding initiatives impacting health, safety, and environmental protocols, procedures, and culture.
